Tobramycin Sulfate is an aminoglycoside antibiotic that inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit, leading to the misreading of mRNA and preventing the proper initiation complex formation. This interference disrupts the translation process and inhibits bacterial growth.
Tobramycin is used in microbiology for selective bacterial isolation and in antibiotic sensitivity testing to determine the susceptibility of bacterial strains. Ideal for studying bacterial susceptibility patterns and antibiotic resistance. Its inclusion in culture media can help selectively isolate bacteria that are susceptible to this antibiotic.
